Encaustic Art at First Church

The Arts Committee presents a special exhibit about the Ancient Art Tradition of Encaustic Painting by artist Karen Kieffer.

Sunday, February 26 at 11:30
First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall
500 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, Ca 91101
(enter from the Green Street/Los Robles parking on the west side of the building).

For More information, contact the church office at 626-796-0157 or by email at office@fumcpasadena.org

Karen Kieffer works in the encaustic medium, a process of painting with molten beeswax mixed with color pigments.  The result of the combination produces mysterious, deep and translucent images that seem to glow from within.
Encaustic painting dates back to the 5th century BCE, beginning with the ancient Greeks and later the Egyptians and was originally used by the Greeks to decorate ships evolving into the fine art form used in mural painting and Egyptian funeral portraits.
Over the years, Karen has explored many different forms of art but she considers herself a painter.  Having worked extensively with acrylic, oil, and pastel, she discovered and began to do encaustic painting in 2005.  The visual outcomes are like no other medium.
Join us on the 26th to enjoy Karen's art work and learn about this ancient art tradition as practiced today. Karen will be available at the exhibit to answer your questions about the encaustic art tradition.
You can find more of Karen’s art in her Karen Kieffer gallery gallery on Etsy.
