Breakfast and Bible Stories

First Church begins a Family Worship Experience on Sunday mornings.

We invite you and your family to join us at 8:55 am on Sunday mornings, in the chapel, for breakfast and family worship.

Each Sunday, we will offer a healthy breakfast for parents and children followed by a casual worship service led by our children.  After worship, children join their Sunday School teachers for class time followed by music at 10 am.

Sunday morning Adult Bible Study

SpiritSeekers Adult Sunday School, invites you to study with them on Sunday mornings beginning at  8:55 AM, in the Church Lounge at FUMC Pasadena.

Beginning Sunday, January 6th, SpiritSeekers begins Philip Yancey’s 8-week study, The Bible Jesus Read, facilitated by Paula Hui.

Jesus didn’t have Paul’s epistles or the Gospels when he meditated on God’s word.  As a Jew, he studied the Hebrew Bible.  Yancey, editor-at-large for the magazine Christianity Today, observes in this study that the Hebrew Bible “portrays the world as it is, no holds barred.  In its pages you will find passionate stories of love and hate, blood-chilling stories of rape and dismemberment, matter-of-fact accounts of trafficking in slaves, honest tales of the high honor and cruel treachery of war.  Nothing is neat and orderly. . . .”  But he also detects in these stories of God’s people a “gradual but certain movement toward grace.”  Yancey offers samplings from Job, Deuteronomy, Psalms, Ecclesiastes and the Prophets  -- not because he expects them to reveal the secrets of life, but as companions on his own pilgrimage.

SpiritSeekers will interrupt the Yancey series mid-February to join FUMC’s church-wide Lenten Study.  Watch for details.

Adult Ministries invite you to consider the gift of a spiritually-centered study in your life. It is in settings of close connection with others on a faith journey that we deepen our relationship with God and strengthen connections with one another as the church, the body of Christ. We encourage everyone to consider one or more of these short or long-term commitments, whether as a new visitor, or a new or long-time member.

Confidential scholarship assistance is available to assist with study material fees. See Rev. Adiel DePano or your course leader. Childcare is provided on Sunday morning and for weeknight classes when needed. Please indicate when signing up.

Sunday School Art Class on Open Doors

The Arts Committee of First Church announces a Sunday School Art Class on May 20th, 2012, for grades K-4 at 9 am sharp!

All children in Mr. Eric's class and Grades 2-4 will have a special Sunday School lesson treat on 5/20 as Lisa and Nicole Saint will lead an art class on the "Open Door" theme from 9 AM to 10:50 AM.  

Please arrive on time as late arrivals are not guaranteed a spot and may not be able to participate.

Art work created will be collected and put on exhibition on Sunday, July 15th, during our Open Door Sunday coffee hour when we welcome VBS families.  

All church members are encouraged to contribute Open Door art for thi.  

Grades 5 and 6 will enjoy a Sunday School Art Class on June 3rd so mark your calendars!

Sunday School's Lenten Mission Begins!

Lent is here, that means Heifer Project at FUMC!

The Sunday School's annual Lenten mission to raise funds for Heifer International is underway.

Heifer sends live animals to people in need around the world.  Live chickens give eggs, goats give milk and the gift keeps on giving.  Help support the Sunday School mission in the coming weeks.  Watch for youth announcements about Bessie and Bossy.

Special Heifer Challenge:  The pastors have challenged us to collect $1,000 in straight donations.  When we reach $500, one of our pastors will come as a pig to worship.  When we reach $1,000, a second pastor will come as a pig to worship.  Look for the Portia the Heifer Pig box during coffee hour.  On 2/26, we collected $125 toward our goal.  Help us get to $500 on March 4.

Sunday, March 4
8:45 AM:Heifer Project kick-off breakfast. Parents and children of all ages come to the Fellowship Hall to learn more about the work of Heifer International, our Lenten Sunday School mission effort led by our Sunday School classes. Youth will share the story! (Children will then go to Sunday School classes about 9:15.)

March 11
Heifer Project Sales during Coffee Hour:  Bake/craft sales by Sunday School Grades 2-4 with Grades 2-4 doing children's mission moment in worship.

March  18
Heifer Project Sales during Coffee Hour:  Bake/craft sales by Sunday School Grades PreK-4 with Grades PreK-1 doing mission moment in worship.

March 25
Heifer Project Sales during Coffee Hour:  Bake/craft sales by Grades 5-6 with Grades 5-6 doing mission moment in worship.  Watch for a special Sunday School presentation during coffee hour.

April 1

Palm Sunday- Children rehearse during (some of) Sunday School hour for Easter performance
10:00- Children process into worship waving Palm fronds after worship youth sponsored Egg Hunt party in cloister (NOTE change of location)  

April 8 Easter

Children’s Choirs sing Introit; Children adorn the Resurrection Cross during worship 

Special Note: You can begin Heifer project contributions this Sunday in the Fellowship hall. Look for the Portia Pig box! With each $500 one of your pastors will come as a pig to worship!!!
